True Love

She dotes on him.  Fixes his covers, smooths back his hair.  Looks lovingly into his weary eyes.  She keeps vigil, worrying, praying, hovering, waiting.  She watches his every move and leaps to her feet if he but moves his fingers.  Her love for him is evident with every breath she takes.  And though he can't give her more than a few words at a time, he receives her love with tenderness and care.  He looks for her and worries when she is not there.  He responds to her voice, even when his eyes are closed.   When asked he will proudly tell you that marrying her was the best decision he ever made in his life.

Married 60 years in March.  

No longer newlyweds.  No longer young.

Yet still passionately in love with each other.

It is a pleasure to sit in a hospital room and watch them.  Though I grieve at the circumstances that brought him there, I get the privilege of watching True Love in action.  A love that has stood the test of time.  A love that has kept no record of wrong.  A love that trusts, hopes and believes.  A love that longs for the best in the other.   A love that is patient and kind and trustworthy.  A Godly love that produced four children, eight grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. 

Their love molded and shaped my husband and thus, molds and shapes my sons.  I am grateful for them.  Grateful for their faithfulness.  Grateful for their faith.  Grateful that they love the Lord and that they love each other.  I pray that God will heal his body so that they have more days.  Watching True Love is a treasure not enough people in this world get to witness.  I cherish that treasure as I cherish Rob's parents.  They are rare, genuine and of great worth!
