Casey. Simon. Barton. Sutter. Hanson. Frank. Aubree. Bobby. Jason. Porter. Iris. Darren.

We have raised over $8,500.00 in our Mulligan Stew so far.

I don't know the exact numbers this morning as my number runner couldn't get them to me but tomorrow we should have the totals.

I'm too exhausted right now to rally myself to figure them out.

We did an 18 hour marathon yesterday - drove up to Philly and back with a stop at Nemours and a LONG day at Shriners.

Want to know what made our day worth it??

Want to know what made my husband cry??
In this picture are FIVE adopted children and ONE homegrown babe with arthrogryposis.

Three of these children were ones we YELLED FOR on this blog.

Laurel (Alexandra), Alexis (Sasha) and Cole (Judah)

It's okay to go grab some tissues... we had leaky eyes too..

I'd met Alexandra before but Rob hadn't had that privilege.

We both got to meet Sasha and Judah for the first time.

Brother and sister.

So many of you gave to the Duval family so they could get Judah and a few months later Sasha.

THANK YOU FOR GIVING... THANK YOU FOR CARING!!

IT MATTERS!

I know that Sasha doesn't look all that happy in this picture - treatments at Shriners are not the happiest of events.  She is struggling through and I know her family would deeply appreciate prayers at this time.

Sheri has five of the children with her and they are currently camping out in Philly for the next several weeks as Sasha goes through the serial casting process.

Please pray for them!!

Go leave some words of comfort for Sasha and the family here if you can....

The sacrifice they are making to give Sasha the gift of walking is HUGE.  It is a long road ahead for Sasha.  Please please pray!!

This is another beautiful adopted treasure.  She's as precious in real life as she is in the picture!!

It is such a blessing to meet the Shriners families and watch the children as they grow!  Adopting kids with arthrogryposis definitely has its benefits!

Aaron got all of his casts off yesterday..

They did the arm first and he was beyond overjoyed!

His bone hadn't healed yet so we moved from a cast to a splint.  I'll take a splint over a cast any day!!

After the easy arm experience.. Aaron was ready and willing to do the leg part...

His smile lasted until she started actually removing the casts.

He definitely shed a few tears during the process.  Then, seeing bandages on both his knees and realizing that moving his legs was terribly PAINFUL..

Well...

We quickly covered up those ugly knees...

And Dr. Papa did major distraction therapy...

Pooh Bear is now cast free.

Our littlest is going to take a few days before his shaky little legs can run again.  It will probably take even longer to restore his fragile spirit.   March was a hard month on so very many levels for him.  We watched him deteriorate emotionally as the month wore on.  Losing the ability to walk freely had a profound impact upon his psyche.  Orphanage behavior that we thought was long gone came back.  His vocabulary went backwards, his nighttime rocking and teeth grinding increased and he went back to daytime rocking.  Redirecting him didn't stop the need to rock and comfort himself.  He was quick to fall apart, quick to cry and unable to regulate his emotions.

It was a vivid reminder to us for the entire month of the life our son once lived.

He suffered for 6 years alone.

He spent the first few years of his life in and out of the hospital.

Every single time he was there he was ALONE.

I just can't even go there with my mind.

I can't allow myself to go there.

I love him so very much and to think that he went through surgeries and sicknesses and traumas without my being by his side makes me ill.

It is one of the motivating factors for all the screaming and yelling we are doing.

Casey.  Simon.  Barton.  Sutter.  Hanson.  Frank.  Aubree.  Bobby.  Jason.  Porter.  Iris.  Darren.

They are suffering alone.

PLEASE HELP US BE THEIR VOICE!

Help raise their grant funds.

Share them through the internet and in your own worlds.

Consider - just consider bringing one of them into your home.

Pray for them.

Pray for this Mulligan Stew that it would provide a way for them to be seen.

We cannot do this without you.

These kids are suffering.  We cannot save every one but we can do something about these!

  3. Hypothetically speaking, if someone wanted to move on one of these kiddos, what is the first step? And is there a point in trying to adopt one of these guys if you're not currently with an agency? We've adopted three kids through CPS, but never internationally and we don't really plan to. But one of these kids is tugging at me. Can you talk about how a family would move forward with one of these guys? I'd like to know more.

    1. All the children are actually from the same country this year. This link should help: http://reecesrainbow.org/new-family/newfamily - It gives you info and what you would need to qualify. Costs for individual children from this country (e-mail me covenantb@yahoo.com) run about 24,000.00 for one and 5,000 for each extra child.
