$10,000 Fun!!

 

A few days ago I was playing the "I wish" I had $10,000 to give to the Angel Tree game...

 

 

 

I was thinking about how I would disperse that $10,000 for maximum gain.  I sat there with my calculator and tried to figure out how I could make the greatest impact with that money.

 

 

 

My plan.  Take that $10,000 and help the babes at the very bottom of the tree move up. 

 

I was having fun counting up how many babes I could help with $10,000.00. 

 

 

 

Yes.

 

I am weird that way.

 

 

 

I can't help it. Most of the children on the Angel Tree have Down Syndrome. Many of them were discarded at birth by their families. Throw away babes.

 

 

I know what happens to these throw away babes.

 

If my yelling and advocating can help one or two or five or ten and keep them from ending up where I know they are headed then it is worth it to me to yell and advocate.

 

 

So I sit around and dream and consider...

 

I don't have 10,000 to give.

 

 

I wish.

 

But someone else did.

 

 

Someone else had $10,000 and they are doing exactly what I wanted to do.

 

They even took my idea...

 

With a twist.

 

An if ... then ... twist.

 

If we bump a babe over the $500.00 wall...

 

 

 

Then they will bump another babe at the very bottom of the tree over the $500.00 wall.

 

And this will happen again and again and again until the $10,000 runs out. 

 

That is a LOT of money which means a LOT of babes are going to bump up the tree!!

 

How's that for fun????

 

Of course if we don't bump anyone over the $500.00 wall then the bottom babes are not going to get bumped.

I'm weird that way.

 

My Charlie and Rebecca are way over the $1,000 wall on the tree.  I am so so happy for them.

I love these two babes!!

 

I will keep on shouting for them, but for the next two weeks I'm also going to do all I can to get the bottom feeders on the tree moved up and over the $1,000 wall.

 

 

 

I know many many many of you put off making your tax deductible donation to charity until the very end of the year.

 

How about taking all or part of that donation and helping the least of the least this year?  I cannot tell you how many times I have people tell me they would adopt but the money is the stumbling block.

Invalid Homes

 

 

I'm still grieving their transfer.

 

I'm still grieving because I found out more news that just makes my stomach sick.

 

After I posted on Tuesday that Rebecca and Charlie had been transferred, I found out they were not sent to the same place.

 

They were separated and each sent to two different remote villages. 

 

Rebecca was sent to an "invalid home for girls."

 

Charlie was sent to an "invalid home for boys."

 

I know all about these invalid homes.

 

I know all about them.

 

They are a far cry from the orphanage where Rebecca and Charlie spent their last 5 years.

 

 

Charlie and Rebecca have traded an orphanage with swing sets and therapy pools and music rooms and teachers and desks for barren buildings, cattle yards and sheds.

 

Those remote 'homes' out in the middle of nowhere are very often underfunded warehouses where children are basically kept until they die or until they are moved again to nursing homes.

 

I can't imagine how frightened and alone those two sweet babes are right now.

They are not just children in a picture to me. They are little ones we met and hugged and enjoyed for a few brief days last May.

They were part of John's world.  He has memories and stories about them.  Charlie slept in the same room as John. They ate together, played together and fought together.

 

They are now alone in worlds that are confusing and strange.

 

They need fields sold for them on their behalf.

 

They need Mamas and Papas willing to step into the unknown, because no one has ever been adopted out of either of those institutes.

 

They need sacrifice. 

 

They need our prayers.

 

 

They need us not to turn away because they just stepped into the hardest part of their story.

Moved from an orphanage where they were being well-fed, loved, protected and schooled.  Transferred to an unknown place.

 

From what I have been told where they are living now is NOTHING like where they were.

 

We knew it was going to happen.  We knew the director couldn't keep them much longer.  She held on to them as long as she possibly could but in the end... it was completely out of her control.

 

They've been transferred.

 

 

We met both of these children.  The last day I was there Rebecca came up to me and pulled my head down and kissed me on the cheek. Charlie is the best hugger in the entire world!

 

Both of them are loveable, sweet, well-mannered children.  They are not brother or sister but I'm sure neither would mind if they were adopted together.  They can also be adopted separately.

Two Boys, Two Pairs of Socks and Two Elizabeths

Two boys. 

 

This morning... the boy on the left stood before a judge and said YES to a family. He waited 10 years.  Meet Tobias Sergei Meyer. His family is over the moon in love with him.  They cannot believe that he waited so long for a family. What a treasure! What a wonderful treasure they found in their field.

 

The boy on the right. That's Marv. He's waited 14 years for a family. He is still waiting.

 

Another lost treasure in a field!  Who will sell it all for him?  Who will take the risk to give him hope and family?

 

Two boys.  Their stories similar until this morning. One found. One still waiting.

A little over two years ago I received an e-mail from a lady who had always quietly supported my comings and goings on this blog but who had never introduced herself until then.  She had just found out that the cancer she had battled a few years before had come back with a vengeance.  Her name was Elizabeth Dehority and I was honored to call her my friend.  Each time her cancer slammed her, she would take money out of her bank account and give it to a worthy cause. She called it the Dehority Distraction. For a year and a half I was blessed to take part in several of her distractions.  Along with her love of giving, Elizabeth was a knitter of socks.  As I write this I am wearing one of those pairs she knitted. As she knitted, she prayed. And prayed. The socks I am wearing represent thousands of prayers from a woman who dedicated her life to being Christ in the flesh.

 

 

 

Elizabeth Dehority died in April. I miss her.  Terribly. 

 

She has a namesake on Reece's Rainbow.

 

A beautiful little girl named Elizabeth.

 

 

 

Another lonely little girl who has waited and waited for oh, so long for a family. The reality for little Elizabeth is that without medical care she will die.  Her orphanage is BEGGING for a family for her.

 

Here's the deal. 

 

I have a friend name Lu who just happens to have a pair of socks that Elizabeth started but never finished.  So Elizabeth's mom lovingly put the last touches on those socks and they are now beautiful and complete.

 

 

She is GIVING AWAY that pair of socks PLUS another pair of socks that she herself knit as a labor of love to Elizabeth and all that she meant to so many people.

Thanksgiving Memories

 

We celebrated John's first Thanksgiving with some of my family.

 

 

John got to meet more of his cousins and ate his first turkey dinner and experienced our annual Arnold family anything goes singing time!

 

 

My favorite part is the singing.
