Pooh Bear to the Rescue!

Watching our son slip into deep depression has not been pretty.

It has been a hard hard week.

Aaron's dimples disappeared.  His voice disappeared.  He stopped making eye contact.

Sorrow upon sorrow for our little guy.

Yesterday morning he looked at me and asked in a quiet voice - 2 days??  2 days??  Casts off?

No sweetheart - 23 days.

23 long and miserable days.

Tears pooled in his eyes as he shook his head and said that was just too long.

Agreed.

Way too long.

Nothing was right.

Everything was wrong.

I put him next to me in the office and downloaded a new game on his iPad to get his mind off his misery.

When lunch came he looked at me and informed me that Pooh was hurt.

POOH WAS HURT??  HIS POOH BEAR WHO HAD FAITHFULLY BEEN BY HIS SIDE - SINCE THE DAY WE BROUGHT AARON OUT OF THE INSTITUTE??? POOH BEAR WAS HURT?  OH NO!!  THIS CANNOT BE!!

Yes!  Pooh hurt his legs.  He needs casts.

Casts???  For his legs??? This Mama will get right on that job!  His arm too??? Pooh needs a cast on his arm?? Okay... Coming right up!!

Ahh.... Now Pooh will get better.

"But we have to give him medicine and hold him and love him," says the Aaron boy!

And so we did.

All day yesterday.

And last night.

And this morning.

Pooh has to wait for 22 more days to get his casts off.

But he has loving hands caring for him.

And so all will be well.

And somehow... in the midst of caring for his beloved Pooh Bear... Aaron's depression has ebbed away.

He still hates his casts.

He still can't wait for those 22 days to be over.

But his dimples appeared last night.

And his voice is returning, although it is still soft and quiet.

Somehow... the Pooh that rescued him from the darkest of places....

The Pooh that sat by his side when he drove away from the gates ...

The Pooh that nestled quietly down beside him on his first day out..

And has faithfully stayed by his side for 2 1/2 years...

That same Pooh has again brought comfort and relief to our little guy.

Everyone needs a Winnie the Pooh.

HANSON DOESN'T HAVE A POOH BEAR.

He doesn't have Winnie the Pooh by his side.

He is seven years old and lays in his bed day after lonely day and dear friends..... We just can't leave him there!!

HE NEEDS A FAMILY!

He is physically disabled.  If he had been born in your family or mine he would have received treatment and care and would have probably been learning right along with his peers.  But for seven years he has been locked away.  His body and his mind.  So yes- he is most likely cognitively affected.  This picture was taken in Hanson's baby house.  We do not have an updated picture.  We have no current information about him.  We just know he is a LOST Boy and he needs out.

Hanson is one of two boys who were part of our Mulligan Stew last year.

Heath is the other boy.

BOTH BOYS NEED FAMILIES.

Heath is fully funded so we are not including him this year but..

HANSON IS ONE OF OUR MULLIGAN STEW BABES.

I am still taking donations for our Mulligan Stew Giveaway.

A Giveaway that is going to benefit Hanson and so many others!!

We need items for our stew that are big or small.  Just send me a picture and description!  You will do the shipping.

The pot is cooking.... We have ONE child sitting at our table.  There are more.  Many more.  We need YOU to take part!

  4. Katya got into a very deep depression post-op that nearly took her life (literally) when she couldn't eat due to pain in her mouth from thrush . . . so I'm very, very relieved to hear that Pooh Bear helped Aaron! Katya can't talk, so it's very hard for her . . . The Drs told us later that they had never seen anything like that . . . "It was like she just could just make her body go into hibernation." I told them, "She'd had to endure hunger and starvation once before in her life, and she saw no need to repeat it." What our kids have gone through has made them at higher risk for depression, I think. But on the flip side they have survived horrendous things already and will continue to survive and thrive due to the love they now know . . .

  6. Poor Aaron. I hope the next 3 weeks just fly by for him. Have you considered making a paper countdown chain to help him count down the days?
