So I wish each of you could look over my shoulder and read the e-mails I've been getting.
I'm serious about buying stock in the Kleenex company!
Here is just one of the many reasons why I am working my way through tissues...
Yesterday, one of the families who is in our stew donated to another one of the families.
In their comment to me this is what they wrote....
"No need to enter me in the drawing. Make sure as many people as possible get a chance. I'll just head over to Eastern Europe this year and pick up my prizes directly."
DID YOU READ THAT???
Do you realize that this family is sacrificing everything to go get their treasures yet they are digging into their pockets to help ANOTHER family get across the ocean too.
And you want to know what??? That family they just blessed.... They too gave to ANOTHER family. And THAT family also gave.
And you want to know what else???? A whole host of adopting families who are NOT IN THE STEW and who are scrapping pennies to cross the ocean for their own babes have poured money into this fundraiser.
And you want to know what else???? A whole host of adopting families who are NOT IN THE STEW and who are scrapping pennies to cross the ocean for their own babes have poured money into this fundraiser.
DOES THAT NOT MAKE YOU WANT TO GO GET SOME TISSUES??
Does that not humble you beyond words??
Each of these families is trying desperately to raise thousands and thousands of dollars yet somehow they are grasping a truth that too often is missed by too many.
It is in giving that we receive. It is often when we pour ourselves out that God overwhelms us with His blessing.
Here is a sad sad truth...
Here is a sad sad truth...
I know too many churches who are terrified to give to a family who is adopting.
Why??
Because giving to that family may take away from the church offering. Giving to that family may mean less money to cover churches expenses. Giving to that family might encourage another family to adopt and that family might want the church to help them too. That might mean even more money out of the church offering. Even less money for church expenses.
HELLO!!!
IS ANYBODY OUT THERE???
Do you really believe that if your church were to pour itself into orphan care that you would have LESS? Do you really believe that by helping a family bring home one of the Least of These that your church wouldn't make budget?
Do you realize that churches who PRACTICE orphan care are the most ALIVE and HEALTHY churches out there?? Do you realize that when you GIVE and POUR YOURSELF OUT that God pours out His blessing?
Jesus said: Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
God doesn't abandon those churches who care for the widow and the orphan. He just doesn't.
And you know why I know this??? Because churches who care for the widow and orphan understand God's heart. And they are willing to pour themselves out. They are willing to sacrifice everything. They are willing to forgo the fancy buildings and the beautiful furniture. They are content with the simple in order give and give again to those who need it the most. Their little bit offered is multiplied time and again.
It is in giving that we gain.
Our families understand that...
Many of you understand that too...
Now if we could just get the churches to understand that...
2 Corinthians 9: 6-11
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
As it is written:

As it is written:
“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
their righteousness endures forever.”
their righteousness endures forever.”
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
